About Dykes Bros

Our History

The Dykes family has been operating in the market for four generations, since 1912.  In this time we have proudly developed a great reputation for great service and high quality produce.  We source products from all around Australia to give our customers as many options for different products as possible.  Dykes Bros aims to have long term business relationships with growers, some of our relationships dating back to 1972.

Mark Dykes started in the industry in 1912 by bringing stock from the Melbourne docks to the old Queen Victoria market on a horse drawn dray.  Soon after he created his own wholesale business.  His son Mark Jr worked for him upon returning from the war and then developed his own business.  Having four sons, the family ties to the industry strengthened with all four entering the industry.

Mark III and Brian started Dykes Bros in 2003 basing the business around berries, avocadoes, lemons, limes and passionfruit. With Mark’s two sons Adam and Jonathan in the market, we will continue our proud family history of involvement in the Melbourne Markets for many years to come.

We maintain the highest standards of ethics in both our dealings with our customers and growers.  We aim to deliver quality produce and service to independent retailers and providores alike.  Not doing any business directly with the chain supermarkets.

“I’ve had a productive relationship with Dykes Bros since 2006. The thing I value most in my business is trust. I have absolute trust in Dykes Bros to be able to do their job at a high level and get me the greatest possible return for my fruit. I am always paid on time and it is always the amount that they have told me..”
